First of all thanks Justin Weber and all the young explorers society for this dangerous invite :)

I've been working at www.sant.at since 2005(they started in 2005 too) doing some motion graphics. I'm the only guy on the crew doing 2D motion graphics so all the 2D parts were made by me. And lately i've been doing some draws(since I met Justin Weber at the World Yo-yo Contest, he motivated me a lot).

I've just been wondering, where's Brett in cyberspace right now? I think he should post some photos, a journal entry, etcetera, from his trip to Dubai so far. I'd like to know what kind of adventures he's having. I guess I just miss him. It's true, I do. Where is Brett, what has he been doing overseas, and why hasn't he posted anything here yet?

Short Story II: Turn 350

I wanted to write something, so i sat down for an hour and came up with this. Enjoy.

Yesterday is was sunny, and yesterday was sunday. But today was monday, and it was over cast and grey. Mondays are normally awful. They're work days. Mondays lasted longer than any other day. And Randy thought today would be worse than normal, but he thought that every monday morning. Today wouldn't be better than yesterday thats for sure, but tomorrow would be better than today. Where did that leave him? Right now in the thick of it. So he got out of bed, shaved in the pale light, and grabbed a cheese danish for breakfast on his way to work.

He parked on the back as he always does. After putting his bagged lunch in the fridge, set out across the lawn to the shed. He didn't talk to anyone, because there was no one to talk to. He unlocked the shed. Randy wasted no time looking around. He'd done this before and he'd do it again.

Randy often thought about quitting, but on tuesday he forgot all about that. Today, he didn't think about quitting either. His only thoughts were on the rusty, red lawn mower. He checked the gas and filled it up. He made his routine second check of the gas and oil levels. Everything else seemed fine. Come on quitting time, he muttered his monday morning prayer.

Over the expanse the green grass was met by the pale grey sky, and he drove on. The humming engine muted all other sounds. The vibrations soothed him and he settled in for the long haul. He made his turns, right, left, left, right. He counted the 379 turns till he was done mowing for 2 years now. It was a maze. He drove it the same exact way every monday.

On turn 32, he'd see Mrs. Greenwood. He'd wave. She never waved back. She was old and rich. Her place was made mainly out of marble and had decorative etchings all over it. In middle of 42 and 43, he'd see little Joey Packstorm. He was seven. Joey like riding his biking in the street in front of his house. At 104, Dr. Forrest's place. The doc loved smoking his pipe. Mrs. Grendal's place was at turn 207. She talked and flirted with all the young men. She wore white cotton dresses all summer long. However, her husband flirted with the bottle and talked with his hands.

Turn 350 was why he dreaded mondays. It was weird. When he would pass, he'd slow the lawn mower down and just stare out at him. He reminded Randy of his mom death for some reason. All he could remember from her death was the stale coffee served at the reception. She loved her coffee and she would have been so pissed if she knew about it. He could just hear her say something like, you serve this piss to honor my death.

Randy knew that he wasn't himself he was looking at himself, but it felt so strange. They had the same name. They weren't the same, but turn 350 always made him think of his life, his mom, all the drugs, the 7 years he'd done in jail for robbing the gas station, and his future death. The thought of death didn't scare him. The thought of what would be said about him after he died, that scared him. What would they say? Would there even be anyone to say it? The rest of the week he could forget, but turn 350 forced him to think about it. and it wasn't a pleasant thought.

He made his final turn and headed back to the shed. Randy carefully drove the lawn mower into the shed, made sure everything was in its place, and then lock it up. He went to the kitchen and ate his lunch. He finished out the day watering some plants, spreading some fertilizer on a dying garden bed, and finally pruning an apple tree. Come on quitting time. It now was quitting time.

He walked out the front door, and noticed the paint was chipping on the iron fence that surround the place. He'd have to paint that tomorrow. After taking one final looked back across his grass where he worked every monday morning, he locked the iron fence behind him as he left. He noticed the letters on the front sign would probably due for another layer of paint tomorrow as well. He wanted to treat this job with much respect. It was his first job out of prison. it had kept him off the street, and out of trouble. His job at East View Cemetery had saved him.

Hi Guys! I know I haven't posted in a while, but I've been here, enjoying your art. Here's a little literary art I recently composed for my wife.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Your husband was stirring with thoughts of his spouse.
My musings were hung 'round my mind with care,
In hopes that revelation soon would be there.

Aidan was nestled all snug in his bed,
While visions of trains danced in his head.
And you in your "sweats", and with Flyers on my cap,
We'd just settled down for a long winter’s nap.

When inside of my mind there arose such a clatter,
I needed to find just what was the matter.
Reminders of verse flew to me like a flash,
And I started to pray to avoid a big crash.

The moon on the best of all women I know
Gave the luster of mid-day to your face below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But your beautiful smile, filling me with great cheer.

With a little old chuckle, so lively and quick,
I knew yet again, you must be God's pick.
More rapid than eagles my praises now came,
And I sang, and shouted, and called Him by name!

I went over to watch the University of Delaware's football team scrimmage on Saturday. It was good times, got me prematurely pumped for football. I brought a camera and snapped about 100 photos... nothing spectacular like this:

which I snapped a few years back of a kick being blocked, but there were some decent ones. I didn't get to mess with them at all yet, not even crop them, but here are a few:

I used my sister's camera, which is pretty sweet. I didn't have a tripod or anything and I was in the stands, but most of the photos came out pretty good. I need to get me a camera.

The genesis of Genesis

Greetings fellow explorers
this is my first exploration
These paintings im sharing represent my first step
back into the world of painting
which i abandoned for several years
They also represent my first installment
of a new series in the works of mostly abstract (but literal) imagery
inspired by the Genesis creation account
Along with paintings, these works will include
photography, video and who knows what else

At this point, the paintings are still untitled
size = 4x3ft
medium = acrylic
ive repainted/reworked so many times, ive become numb to the sight
of them however, im still not finished or satisfied i plan to add some more
detail and pull out more depth...

Japan exploration #2: mountain falls

My friend Natsuyo took me and a bunch of my classmates to a waterfall up on Rokko-san, a mountain range that borders Kobe. (By the way, before I commented that Kobe was a little bit like Philly, but on second thought it is not very. The majority of its residents live in apartment buildings that tend to be about 3 to 4 stories high, narrow and crammed together, boxy, and complicated by such things as clothe-lines, powerlines, flowerboxes, and bicycles leaning up against them. I`ll show pictures of this later.) The mountain is about 300 meters high; we hiked up and down on foot. The hike features about 3 or 4 different waterfalls (the same stream, just different sites), which we didn`t know beforehand, so it was exciting every time we happened upon a new one. As you can see, I was able to search out other things, like the snail, spider, as well as some things I wasn`t able to capture in time (a small anole-like lizard).

ここに生ますよ！I`m here. I made it, having travelled for a whole 24hrs or so. I just wanted to upload one photo for now, to give you a taste of what I`m seeing. It`s a picture from my dorm in Kobe. We`re alot closer to the mountains than I thought we`d be, which is great. Sometime soon I`m going to grab a train (their public trans system is the best) up to the base and hike up that thing. I`m so glad, even though I`m smack dab in the city, that I have some wilderness to explore. I`ll have plenty of chances to explore the city in the nice 70 degree weather. I already took a tour of the neighborhood with my classmates. I`m going to see if I can rent a bike and ride all over. Look for more posts from here... あとで！

I just finished my 2nd year at University of Delaware in the Visual Communications program and thought I'd post a photo I did for a project. The photo was shot with a Holga camera, a cheap, plastic piece that allows you to manually advance the film (or not advance it and do double/overlapping exposures).

Well Folks, I'm headed to Japan for study aboad the whole month of June! I'll be in Kobe and the surrounding area, and I plan on doing some young exploring. I'll take lots of pictures and, if I can, I'll upload some here.

The other day, I was "studying" (lol) and realized that I have taken literally libraries full of notes in class, such a waste of trees. My First YES Post

John and Paul talked me into posting this. I wrote this about a two and a half weeks after April 16th. It's what I wanted to answer every time someone asked me how I was doing or how things were/are at VT.

One tonight, Brett, Amy, Ian, Collin, and I recorded this song in a couple of hours at Ian's studio on garage band. It is not great, it didn't really turn out the way I hoped, but we all had fun. I was going to add some more stuff to it and edit it down, but decided not to. I'm kinda lazy. This was our first recording experience, and it was really fun. Sometime in the up coming future, I hope to record again. Let me know what you guys think?

irrational but real fear

Apology in advance: I'm sorry that this post is not really a product of creativity; rather I'm sharing a haunting thought. Also, I'm sorry for the small font, but this post is long and I wanted to easily be able to scroll to Paul's Superman pic!

I have one of the world’s strangest fears, a fear of eternity. My fear is not exclusive to eternal damnation but also eternal bliss. Now, most people would agree that the traditional view of hell is the pinnacle of horror. If the traditional view is correct, which I’m not entirely certain it is (for several reasons that I'd be happy to discuss in the comments section or via email), then it would make perfect sense to be petrified of becoming condemned to such a place for all eternity. Any sane person would agree to that position. Alternatively, almost any sane person would love the traditional view of heaven to be true, and as such, would want to be in such a place forever. I guess this is where I part with the rest of the sane world. When I sit and deeply ponder the idea of existing forever, no end, no conclusion, no finality, I suddenly become overwhelmed with dread that borders on despair. Again, this horrible sensation overtakes me even if I’m picturing perpetual paradise. I often go so far as to aggressively shake my head until I clear that feeling and image from my mind. Now, I know that I'm very unique in this respect, i.e. I probably have one of the oddest and rarest fears in this world. I'm also well aware of the fact that most people love and embrace the idea and hope of an eternal heaven. Because I know that my fear is pretty unique to me, I have no problem continuing to share my devout Christian faith which teaches of that blissful, eternal heaven. Otherwise, the irony would be downright pathetic, far worse than it already is! :) I can easily joke about it, but the fear is very real. My coping mechanism is simply to try to avoid thinking about it, but of course, that path never leads to resolution, making my position difficult. Also, 2 things should be noted. 1) I don't obsess over this topic on a daily basis, so please don't picture me in constant mental and emotional torment. Nevertheless, the haunting persists. 2) I have already pondered hundreds of times about how I won't feel this way in heaven and how the bliss will be so beyond my imagination that I'll never want it to end. No wheelchairs, no paralysis, yeah! I welcome your feedback on point 2, but please don't think that I haven't thought through countless scenarios. I've even imagined negotiations with God, in which I'll do anything He asks as long as my eventual death is truly the end of me. I know. I know. It's completely bizarre. OK, maybe I'll "endure" 100 years of heaven and then happily cease to exist. Nuts...right?

I'm starting to think, "Why am I making this strange admission? Do I have anything of value to share?" Well, I'll have to answer the 1st question for myself, and I'll let you be the judge regarding the 2nd question.

I recently read an article entitled "Minding the Call" by Sister Elaine Prevallet, a Catholic nun. In her writing, she describes the miraculous way in which God called her to be a nun. She then describes "the call" in general, including both short term and life long calls. She writes, "At the deepest level, the call frees us. It enables us to see what really matters, to focus our love, to dedicate ourselves to something/Someone larger than ourselves, and so to enter consciously into that continual stream of losing and finding ourselves that is the mystery of life." For me, that aspect of life, the losing and finding, is not only beautiful but critically essential to my mental health, sanity, and happiness. I desperately need beginnings, processes of change and discoveries, and then endings. Then, those steps repeat. Each time, something new is unveiled even if that particular "go 'round" may have been painful. My strange fear is relieved by God's design for the world, this earthly realm. The day begins as the sun rises, the adventures of that day proceed, and then there is finality as night darkens the sky. Sleeping is somewhat akin to dying but in a very positive way. The previous day is gone, and I find it altogether amazing, refreshing, and necessary to lose consciousness at every ending. (I sometimes wonder if I'd feel some degree of the same fear if I had no need to sleep.) Seasons, other annual cycles, and the entire process of aging and maturing are all part of this same "losing and finding ourselves that is the mystery of life". In this earthly life of mine, it is divinely powerful and fulfilling, for me at least, to follow the ongoing pattern of lost and found. I fear that heaven won't have cycles or mysteries if we are granted perfection. Check please...

Ode to Insomnia

I fully intended to post some seriously deep thoughts to the site today. Ah well, I'm sure you all know the old saying... "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." How true! Anyway, I couldn't sleep last night, hardly a wink. To be blunt, it sucked. So, in the midst of this waking nightmare, I wrote a poem in my head. I touched it up a bit this morning, and now I proudly present it to you, my adoring fans.

I have insomnia
It's worse than diarrhea
From the accursed cafeteria
Causing poop for millennia

Awful insomnia
Much prefer malaria
From the hottest Amazon area
And puking with mass hysteria

Most hated insomnia
Rather have gonorrhea
Even from nasty Anastasia
Or other chicks from Albania

Curse you insomnia
Sleepless cornucopia
Ugh is the onomatopoeia
I grant your reverse utopia

So I was hanging around the internets today when I decided to google (yes narcissism) my Chinese rap crew's name, and the first hit that popped up after our myspace page was this gem:

Apparently some rappers from China put together the CHINA ALL-STAR MIXTAPE (free download from datpiff.com), and included one of my solo tracks (an English joint, but i'm not arguing)

and the saga continues. The mixtape is pretty cool; good beats, anyways, if you want something to play in the background.

Autobiographical Excerpt

Hello to all! My name is Sean Curran. I'm honored to be able to post on this site per the invitation of Paul Odders. I love what you guys have created here. My first post is a very small, true story which will be included in the autobiography I'm writing, (which won't be completed for years). For those of you who don't know me (probably most of you), I've been a quadriplegic since 8/6/89. I broke my neck while body surfing at Ocean City, MD. The disability sucks, but I live an incredibly fulfilled and content life. Just ask those who know me. Anyway, enough with the introductory comments... Here's the excerpt. Please let me know your thoughts.

I sat in a very reclined position in those early days after the accident because I could barely stand having my head raised beyond 30 degrees. Anything more caused instant nausea and light-headedness. It had been explained to me that because I had been bed ridden for weeks on end, my body couldn’t maintain a healthy blood pressure. Essentially, the body had become lazy and didn’t want to work even if it meant only simple tasks like sitting up fully. In a nutshell, that explains why I was seated in that horrible wheelchair at such a slight angle.

That particular day must have been a weekend because there wasn’t any rehab work being done, and generally speaking, the unit was calm. As usual, I was kind of sad and bored at the same time. There was little to do, little I could do, and little I cared to do. So, I sat and stared at the sky through the immense glass windows in a small area just outside my room. The day was partly sunny as the clouds rolled by fairly interspersed. The only thing to do was watch, so watch I did. Before hardly any time had passed, I began using my imagination to see objects in the clouds. The usual fanfare appeared...animals, faces, etc. But then there was a change, a most distinctive and beautiful change. The clouds turned to gold, and the shapes clarified to the point of becoming real. I whispered to my mother, "The clouds look like angels." Then a welling of my spirit occurred so unexpectedly and so beyond any prior experience, that I can only describe it as feeling faith for, perhaps, the first time. I knew faith for years but this sensation was deeper; it pushed past the bulwark of intellect, and I cried unashamedly. With tears streaming down my face, I said boldly, "No, they are angels. Oh Mom, don’t you see? Don’t you see? They’re so beautiful, so very beautiful." They flew across the sky, always golden, always smiling. At times, I was under the distinct impression that they were trying to make me laugh by their movements and facial expressions. The vision continued to stream across the sky as I sat in awe, filled with a peace that I had not felt since the accident. Eventually and sadly, the golden hue faded from the sky and clouds, and the normal blue and white reappeared.

Looking back on that day, I really don’t know what I saw, or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that I don’t know what I believe about what I saw. I do know one thing with certainty. On that day and at that moment, I believed I was seeing angels. No matter what really happened, I was comforted, and ten to twenty minutes of comfort at that point in my life felt like lifetimes of relief. I thank God to this day for the comfort and beauty of both clouds and angels.

The idea for this track is basically that I want to try a new sound for myself - like both Paul and Brett commented on my last post, my lyrics tend to run off the deep end (i.e. mad inscrutable) real quickly; so I went with a diametrically opposite concept than what I usually do: ridin' music.

There are some fun metaphors scattered around here and there, but, by and large, on this track, I was going for as smooth, listenable, and commercial a flow/lyrics/chorus as I could. Lemme know how the experiment worked.

Shenandoah National Park

A Short Story

East of the town of Shelby, route 2 runs parallel to the Marias River. The town of Shelby, with a population of around 3000, is nestled in Toole County, in northern Montana. Practically kissing the Canadian American border, the land surrounding the river is untouched and stunning. Gentle rolling green hills give away to lush forests, and the calm, silence permeating this land, I swear, can stop a freight train. And this is why Henry Ryan, a 29 computer nerd, comes here every year for one week.

The average Danish worker gets 30 days paid vacation, the average Japanese worker gets 25, and the average American worker gets only 16. This is by far the shortest vacation in the world. Henry Ryan gets only 8 paid days of vacation. He should quit his job, get a new one, he knows it, his boss knows, but Henry can’t, he won’t. At least he should tell his boss where to stick the 8 days of paid vacation. He doesn’t. Henry is a push over. It’s not cowardice, maybe it is. Henry excels and enjoys many things where others would fold from pressure and fear. To Henry he’s easy going, to the rest of the world Henry is a door mat. Not one of those beat up, old mats that have welcome embroiled on it. He’s one of the smart, sophisticated top of the line door mats that have witty sayings on it. Yet no matter how fancy of door mat, it still gets walked on.

Henry Ryan was a computer programmer or something like that. I’m not sure, it was with computers though. He worked for Joto, a cutting edge computer company. Their primary product was their search engine, which was starting to compete with Google. In doing so well, one would think that the Joto employees would get some respect or at least some of the cool perks that their Google counter parts receive. Google gave its employees generous stock options. When they went public, Google created 1,400 new millionaires out of their 2,292 total employees. And Henry Ryan, he received a company hat. Google employees have a free, onsite dry cleaning faculty. Henry Ryan’s company has child care staffed by the wicked witch of west. The witch’s burning stare and hairy mole could make any man sterile, and not to mention make little Johnny and Susie wet themselves. Not that Henry has any kids. The closest he’s gotten to having kids, is second base at Kelly Ferguson’s 15th birthday party with Julie Harrison. Julie was hot, and she knew it. She was the Paris Hilton of Henry’s school, no talent, but popular because she was pretty and rich. Anyway, Henry didn’t molest her or anything. He’s not some pervert. They were playing seven minutes in heaven. Both Henry and Julie were in the closed closet, where they were supposed to make out. After about 2 minutes of not talking or anything else, young Henry makes his move. Everyone knows the closed closet is where the magic happens, right? That’s what Henry thought. Apparently, Kelly didn’t know this. Henry found out heaven isn’t located in Kelly Ferguson’s parent’s hallway closet, nor was it to be found in Julie Harrison’s training bra. And a swift kick to the groin only confirmed this. After crumpling to the floor from the blinding pain, Henry’s only thought was he should have stayed home and watched Jeopardy with mother.
Heaven for Henry Ryan is now Montana. During his 8 days of paid vacation, Henry fishes and hunts along the secluded Marias River valley in late September. He does it all. It is a very odd dynamic, a genius computer nerd and the great outdoors. I think Montana was the only place where he felt in charge. I doubt anyone would have guessed his love of the outdoors and his expertise. Looking at him, much of his life was a mismatch, an oddity. He just didn’t fit in. So, I guess Montana made sense.
Tracking silently through the woods, careful to stay on pines needles if possible and not to step on dry leaves or twigs, Henry is master of his domain and king for all to bow down to. His prowess in hunting, shooting, and tracking is world class, a god among men. Well, in his mind anyways. He’s competent enough to survive out on his own in the great outdoors, I guess. He’s done this for at least seven years now, and not suffered any serious injuries. Actually, come to think of it, he’s always felt more refreshed afterwards. He has all the technical knowledge and know how, so how could he not be as amazing? In Henry’s mind there’s no way he’s not at least as good as the professionals on TV. Henry lives completely off the land, and could probably to do so for much longer than a week. Using an assortment of brand spanking new, state of the art camping and hunting equipment, Henry navigates the perils of nature. The thing is, Henry roughs it only once a year, but owns enough equipment for a small nation. Every year while impatiently waiting for his vacation, he buys new equipment whether he needs it or not. In his back closet, there are 10 different types of maps of Montana ranging from roads maps to complex topographical maps. He has four water purifying systems, pumps, tablets, and self-containing bottles that filter the water in the spout. It’s all very impressive stuff, I sure you. With all the equipment and knowledge, Henry has had many Montana adventures.
Henry Ryan’s real passion wasn’t his hiking boots, immaculate knife collection, or his impressive Jetboil Group cooking system; it’s a fancy hiking stove. What he loved and found absolute power in was his guns. I couldn’t tell you anything about his gun collection, I know nothing of guns. But he had tons of them: hand guns, rifles, shotguns, small gun, large guns, and guns with scopes. To him his guns gave him power, made him feel like was alive and in charge. I know what you’re thinking, I thought it too, but Henry Ryan is the last person on earth that would hurt another human being. On the list of people who’d kill someone, Henry comes right behind the sweet, old church lady who has about billion cats and smells of cough syrup all the time. So if you think this is a story about Henry going postal and killing all his coworkers, you’re wrong. He probably should have, well, definitely his boss. When someone lets others walk all over them, even sincerely nice people have a hard time resisting, especially in a work setting. Other programmers were always dumping their work on him. It was very reminiscent of Henry’s school years.
But to know about Henry’s gentle demeanor, you need to know one of his childhood stories. As a kid, Henry got beat up all the time, in preschool, in grade-school, in high school, and even in college. No big surprise there, but it could of all been different for Henry. He could have ending all the beatings. He could have probably been a completely different person. At 14, Henry was skinny, freckled, and wore glasses so thick he could have fried whole ant colonies with them. He was smart. School came easy to Henry, probably too easy. When it came to the social aspect of school, Henry was lost. He was the quintessential nerd. And Jerry O’Connell was the quintessential bully. Having gone through puberty at age 8, Jerry was twice the size of other 9th graders, most teachers were afraid of him. Jerry’s favorite past time was pushing Henry around. It never was that serious, Henry only got scrapes and an occasional bruise. One day Henry had a particularly bad day. I don’t know why, he was just grumpy. To make matters worse, his mom refused to pick him up from school. She refused everyday, and yet Henry called everyday. So like a propaganda machine she laid it on thick, as she did everyday, “Honey, you need to stand up for yourself. You can’t go through life being scared.”
So an encounter with Jerry was inevitable, it always was when he walked home from school, which was everyday. As always Jerry started in on him with the name calling and shoving. Henry and Jerry had kind of always had an unspoken agreement. Jerry wouldn’t beat Henry too seriously and Jerry would just take it, that’s how it had always had gone anyway. Today was different though. Jerry O’Connell had also had a particularly bad day. He’d learned that his family was moving to El Paso, Texas. I’d be pissed too. I can think of one word that describes El Paso perfectly, armpit. So needing someone to take it out on, Jerry beat Henry like never before. With the party lines of his mother ringing in his ears, Henry decided he needed to do something. One desperate swing could have changed it all for Henry. He didn’t connect. Instead Jerry side-stepped the futile effort and tripped over a root. A root changed Henry life forever.
If Henry had indeed connected with Jerry O’Connell’s face, Jerry would have laughed and then gave Henry the most viscous beating of his life. No way could Henry have ever inflicted any harm to a brute like Jerry, but Henry would have had the satisfaction and personal achievement of standing up for himself. That sense of pride would have stuck with Henry for the rest of his life. Henry would have stood up for himself and Jerry and all the other bullies would have stopped. But Jerry tripped over a root and cracked his head against the tree. He laid there, no moans, no theatrics. Just like that, Jerry was dead at the age of 15. A formal investigation by police concluded that it was a random accident, and Henry was at no fault. Henry’s mom had said that the death must been flying around on his dragon and seen the evil in Jerry and came to take him home to the pits of hell. Henry’s mom cared less for Jerry than she was tactful. This did little to relief Henry’s guilt or sickening thud that rang in Henry’s mind over and over. It was self-defense and Jerry out weighed Henry by 70lbs. Unfortunately, Henry completely blamed himself. Consciously or subconsciously, he decided to never stick up for himself again.
After a very successful trip this year, Henry was packing away his equipment in his rented car. The 15 mile trek back to civilization gave him time to think. He was happy with his shooting and tracking performance. But one episode had given him pause. Having squarely hit a rabbit on the dead run, not an easily shot, it flopped down in a peculiar manner. With its two paws together, the rabbit looked as if it was prostrating itself to God. Henry thought that it was probably pleading with God to let him into heaven. Henry didn’t even believe in a God, he was a man of science. Yet still, Henry didn’t eat the rabbit and or any other meat for the remaining two days. Henry got by on berries and some energy bars.
Montana afforded Henry the chance to be what he wanted. At home, Henry drives a Toyota Pirus, one of those Hybrid cars. It is kind of cool and trendy, but that’s about as edgy as Henry could pull off. But today flying west on route 2 in Henry’s rented 2007 ford mustang shelby gt500, he was pure bad ass. With 500 horsepower, it could really giddy up. Henry was driving to Shelby to spend the night before heading south to Helena Regional Airport. But Before arriving in Shelby, Henry always stopped at Big Bert’s Steak House and Gas Station. The steaks were good, nothing to get all excited about, but their house beer, Marias Stony Brooke Brew, was delicious. It did something to Henry. Maybe it was the refreshing week in the wilderness or more practically Henry’s empty stomach. Whatever it was to Henry though, the Marias Stony Brooke Brew was a spiritual experience.
This time started out no different. Henry arrived at Big Bert’s around 6 at night. He ordered some beer and an all American steak meal. The steak was pink and moist, absolutely perfect, the beer was cold and intoxicating, and the waitress was pretty. The waitress’ name was Jane, that’s what her name tag said. She wasn’t magazine model pretty, but there was sincere warmth in her eyes, her voice was smooth as silk, and her petite body were all too attractive for our friend, Henry. The girl, the food, and the buzz all combined to make the atmosphere full possibilities. Why was his life the way it was? Henry saw that his life was exactly how he had made it. The blame and silent indignation he felt for his bullies, was actually his self-hatred for allowing this to happen. Like the clouds parting for the moon, Henry realized that change was possible. He just had to act. These thoughts weren’t novel to Henry; he had had them many times, but had always failed to act. His life would return to normal, and he again would become a door mat. He had to do something, anything, and if he didn’t do it now he probably never would.
Catching sight of his waitress bringing him his fries, Henry knew precisely what he must do. With as much charm as he could muster, Henry asked this lovely waitress if she would go out with him. What Henry didn’t know was that she had recently broken up with her boyfriend, Tom, because she happened to catch him cheating on her with the town floozy. Jane was a simple farmer’s daughter, that sounds stereotypical, but it was true. Her dreams were to live her entire life working a farm and family with Tom, her first and only boyfriend. She loved him so much, well not anymore. After the shock of Tom’s betrayal wore off, suicide was probably the best option for her. Probably not, but that’s what she decided. The funny thing with offing yourself is that most likely it is going to hurt. The unknown of death or the uncertainty of the afterlife was just an afterthought for Jane. The possibility of pain stopped her from suicide. Her despair eventually wore off, and gave way to hatred and thoughts of revenge. She was going to fight fire with fire, which was lucky for Henry.
After settling on a time and place for this date, Henry’s heart raced and his thoughts exploded. For the first time in Henry’s life, he was truly alive. This was going to change his life forever. From this day forward everything changed. So happy with his new epiphany, Henry’s only decision now to make was whether to strip naked and run down the street shouting, “Eureka” like Archimedes or call his boss and tell him to shove it. Happily he decided the later. Quitting was going to be a blast. He didn’t need the money. He had invested well and had a sizable bank account. Had she really said yes? Henry was beside himself with her answer. “Sure, I bet we’ll have a great time,” she had answered him. Henry wasn’t sure, but there was something a little erotic about the way she had said great. It was probably just wishful thinking, but there was a fire in her eyes when she said it. What Henry didn’t know was that there had been an erotic overtone. She didn’t want a relationship, she didn’t want love or compassion or a fun time. She wanted passionate, revengeful sex. This was probably not the best idea in her state of mind. The guilt would most assuredly push her over the edge, and give her the courage to end it all.
Henry didn’t make that call. He had mentally prepared a very amusing speech for his boss, involving many fat ass references. It was going to be priceless. The only phone was in the gas station. Henry had only placed one quarter in, before realizing that the man standing in front of the cash register held quite a large revolver, probably the Smith & Wesson .50-caliber. The casher attendant, maybe 17 years old at the most, looked as if he was going to piss his pants. Now, Henry would have stayed put and did nothing. Most likely the man with the gun would get the money and leave. He looked desperate, but not a killer. But the recent events had conspired against that. The new and improved, take charge Henry couldn’t allow this robbery to happen right in front of his very eyes. His trip, the food, the beer, the girl, and the date buzzed in his mind. Still, an unarmed man against one with a gun is a stupid thing to do, and Henry is many things, but not stupid. Several years ago he passed a test allowing him to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Montana. The weapon was a 9mm Glock 34 Tactical model, and Henry could shoot a fly off a donkey’s ass. Spending much time on the range, Henry was very competent with it, and it was tucked into a holster in the back of his belt. Henry was almost certain that the robber hadn’t seen him at the phone booth, so he ducked and walked along one of the aisles using it as cover. He came up at a 45 degree angle behind the man, aiming his Glock directly over the man’s heart. In very clear and authoritative tone, Henry told the man, “Very slowly drop the gun or I will kill you where you stand.”
Henry Ryan’s life had changed that night. He had experienced a momentous epiphany that most people would never even consider or are brave enough to accept. With the help of a few more drinks to calm his nerves, Henry quit his job, forcing him to step out over the threshold into nothing. Over the next several months, Henry started a computer company, which over the next 12 years would rise to compete with Microsoft and Apple as the alpha dog in the computer business. Jane saw this change in Henry and was also able to see something in herself because of Henry. She did not sleep with him on their date; instead they started an amazing love affair. Their wedding was completely spectacular. Two years later they had their first son, Jerry. His family of Jane, and four sons made Henry more satisfied and happy than he had ever believed possible. He retired wealthier than any human should ever be at the ripe age of 47. Jane and Henry joined with some of his predecessors in charitable endeavors. Henry gave and gave, and it was making a difference. The world is a better place because of that night.
Unfortunately, none of this happens. Henry never finishes his heroic sentence or hears the shot that kills him. A second robber had been in the corner watching for customers and cops. He crept behind Henry and without hesitation fired the fatal shot. The robbers quickly made their getaway after killing the seventeen year old kid, no witnesses you know.

My Threadless Design

So most of you guys already know about threadless, an online shirt company. They accept submissions for t-shirt designs and put them up for voting. The designs with high scores get printed and people can buy them, and the designers get money and gift certificates. Well, I've posted a couple and to say the least they have not done well at all. First off, I'm really rusty in this drawing and being creative stuff, and second, I'm quite incompetent when it comes to photoshop. But I've been trying. This is a current submission that is waiting approval in threadless. Crits and comment welcome.
